Spelling over the phone (phonetic alphabet)

So that email addresses, temporary passwords and codes are understood without mistakes over the phone, the support team uses the NATO phonetic alphabet: each letter has a code word that is said in full (Alfa for A, Bravo for B, and so on).

For example, ana.reis@company.com is spelled: Alfa, November, Alfa, dot, Romeo, Echo, India, Sierra, at, Charlie, Oscar, Mike, Papa, Alfa, November, Yankee, dot, Charlie, Oscar, Mike.

Letter Word Letter Word
A Alfa N November
B Bravo O Oscar
C Charlie P Papa
D Delta Q Quebec
E Echo R Romeo
F Foxtrot S Sierra
G Golf T Tango
H Hotel U Uniform
I India V Victor
J Juliett W Whiskey
K Kilo X X-ray
L Lima Y Yankee
M Mike Z Zulu

For symbols, say the name in full: at (@), dot (.), hyphen (-), underscore (_). For numbers, say each digit separately, and say capital before a letter when it matters, for example in a password.

Never read out your password

The Sooma team never asks for your password, by phone or by email. The alphabet is for spelling addresses, remote support connection codes or temporary passwords that we give you. See Recognise phishing and fraud.
